Finisar Acquires Broadway Networks
SUNNYVALE, Calif., Sept. 28, 2010 — Finisar Corp. announced the acquisition of Broadway Networks Ltd., for an undisclosed amount in an all-cash transaction.
Started in 2006, Broadway developed transceiver products that incorporate additional “system level” functionality for FTTx networks. It has developed a pluggable transceiver that incorporates an EPON ONU in an SFP and enables switches, routers and other customer premises equipment to connect directly to PON networks.
Finisar expects to follow a product roadmap to extend the newly acquired company’s technology to the GPON market.
In addition, Broadway has developed a “Smart SFP” with built-in remote management functionality for telecom carriers to monitor and diagnose the fiber links connecting customer sites.
Broadway has operating locations in San Jose, Calif., Beijing and Suzhou, China.
The acquisition is anticipated to expand Finisar’s footprint in China beyond its current operations in Shenzhen and Shanghai.
Finisar provides subsystems and components for fiber optics communications.
