CORNING, NY, Oct. 16 -- Corning Inc. has agreed to supply Fiberworks, a privately-held, end-to-end Internet and fiber infrastructure provider, with more than 175,000 km of its MetroCor fiber over a three-year period for Fiberworks' 15-city all-optical broadband access and transport systems. Under the terms of the agreement Corning will be Fiberworks' sole provider of fiber and Corning Cable Systems will provide all cable and hardware needed to link the 15 Southeastern US cities. The project will include the installation of fiber-optic rings in central business districts, essential business parks and high traffic, multi-use developments. The fiber-based access network will mostly carry Internet Protocol-based signals directly to and from class A office space, resolving bandwidth bottleneck in the last mile.
