The US Food and Drug Administration has granted 510(k) approval to Galileo Corp. of Sturbridge, Mass., for the sale of its rigid endoscopes used in medical applications. Physicians use the devices, which range in size from 1.7 to 10 mm in diameter, in thoracoscopic, nasopharyngoscopic and general laparoscopic applications because their small size allows less-invasive visualization and diagnosis. The endoscopes utilize the company's patented UltraVue fiber for improved visualization and high light transmission.
