Excimer Laser Developer Gigaphoton to Boost Production Capacity

Gigaphoton, a manufacturer of excimer lasers used in semiconductor lithography, will double its production capacity of excimer laser light sources by 2023. To meet rising demand in the semiconductor market, the company is working to construct a new facility, which it expects will be operational by April 2022.

“With demand for semiconductors on the rise around the world, we will do our utmost to meet the demand from customers,” said Katsumi Uranaka, president and CEO of Gigaphoton.

“In recent years, demand all over the world for semiconductors has increased significantly, and major semiconductor manufacturers in many countries are accelerating investment in semiconductor manufacturing equipment,” the company said in a press release.

The company said it is also seeing increased market demand, with demand expected to remain firm in the future.

“Next year, the new facility will be completed and we will have a more stable supply system in place,” Uranaka said.

lithography
Lithography is a key process used in microfabrication and semiconductor manufacturing to create intricate patterns on the surface of substrates, typically silicon wafers. It involves the transfer of a desired pattern onto a photosensitive material called a resist, which is coated onto the substrate. The resist is then selectively exposed to light or other radiation using a mask or reticle that contains the pattern of interest. The lithography process can be broadly categorized into several...
