Essex Corp. of Columbia, Md., has acquired Adaptive Optics Associates Inc. of Cambridge, Mass., from Metrologic Instruments Inc. Under the terms of the agreement, Essex purchased all of the outstanding stock for $40.3 million in cash. Adaptive Optics designs, produces and installs high-performance electro-optic products and systems.
