BARRINGTON, N.J., Dec. 15 -- Optical and imaging components manufacturer Edmund Optics (EO) has increased its capacity to make complex coatings with more than 100 layers by adding a new 45-in.-diameter coating chamber manufactured by Vacuum Process Technology of Plymouth, Mass.
EO says the fully automated coater more than doubles its ability to make medium and high-end coated parts used in polarizers, laser mirrors, short-wave pass and long-wave pass filters, beamsplitters and dichroic color filters as well as multilayer custom designs.
Equipped with two electron guns and planetary rotation as well as a high-output ion gun, the chamber produces durable "shift-free coatings, and both quartz crystal and optical monitoring improve its ability to meet coating tolerances of less than ±1 percent, according to the company.
