Jenoptik_Deckblatt_Prosp_Kr.jpgJenoptik Laser, Optik, Systeme GmbH has released a 22-page downloadable document titled “Crystal Optics Product Portfolio,” which gives specifications for the company’s retardation plates, polarization prisms, depolarizers, rotation plates, compensators, optical windows and lenses made of crystalline material. It notes that crystal optics fulfill a function in optical systems for applications in laser, metrology and medical technology, and in the semiconductor, aerospace, and security and defense industries. A chart details the materials, including crystalline quartz, sapphire and silicon, as well as their optical properties, including maximum transmission and reflection loss on two optical surfaces. The basics of polarization optics are outlined.

Glossary
crystal optics
The study of the transmission of radiant energy through crystals, especially anisotropic crystals, and their effects on polarization.
metrology
Metrology is the science and practice of measurement. It encompasses the theoretical and practical aspects of measurement, including the development of measurement standards, techniques, and instruments, as well as the application of measurement principles in various fields. The primary objectives of metrology are to ensure accuracy, reliability, and consistency in measurements and to establish traceability to recognized standards. Metrology plays a crucial role in science, industry,...
