SEATTLE, April 7 -- Attendance at the 2005 SPIE Defense & Security Symposium, held March 28-April 1 in Orlando, Fla., increased 11 percent from last year, to over 5400 delegates, and the exhibition grew by some 13 percent, to over 330 exhibitors, SPIE reported today. Exhibitors and attendees both indicated the event was very successful, SPIE said.
"While much of the interest in defense-related research is no doubt spurred by record levels of defense spending, the robust technical program featured at Defense & Security deserves much of the credit, as evidenced by the enthusiasm shown by technical attendees," said Stacy Crockett, SPIE media relations specialist.
Exhibitors were equally impressed. John Keane, a representative for Portland, Oregon-based FLIR Systems, said, "The activity level at this year's exhibition was higher than in past years, and it's been an extremely beneficial venue for touching base with current and potential customers."
