Brett D. Rosner has been named president of Janos Technology Corp., a manufacturer of precision infrared (IR) optical components and assemblies for commercial and military markets. Rosner have more than 20 years of experience in military and commercial electro-optics design, business development, marketing, management and leadership at companies such as Santa Barbara Focalplane, Hughes/GM and Sonatech. Prior to joining Janos, he was director of Santa Barbara Focalplane, a Lockheed Martin missile and fire control business.   . . .   Pacific Nanotechnology Inc., a Santa Clara, Calif., maker of atomic force microscopes (AFMs), has licensed IBM's patent of the fundamental technology for AFMs. US Patent 4724318, "Atomic force microscope and method for imaging surfaces with atomic resolution," was issued to Gerd K. Binnig of IBM's Zurich Research Laboratory in 1988 and reissued in 1990. Binnig and Heinrich Rohrer won the Nobel Prize for the scanning probe microscope in 1986.
