The International Society for Optical Engineering (SPIE) has released a book on robotics, Biologically Inspired Intelligent Robots (SPIE Press). Co-edited by Yoseph Bar-Cohen, a research scientist at the NASA Jet Propulsion Laboratory (JPL), and Cynthia Breazeal, assistant professor of media arts and sciences at the Massachsuetts Institute of Technology, the book focuses on trends and the future for the field of biomimetics, the emulation of life using machines in the form of robotics. A book signing is scheduled for August 5 from 10:00-10:30 a.m at the San Diego Convention Center in conjunction with SPIE’s Optical Science and Technology exhibition. . . . Luxell Technologies Inc. and Cambridge Display Technology (CDT) announced they will collaborate in a program with the National Research Council of Canada (NRC) to demonstrate the effectiveness of Black Layer technology, which Luxell licenses from the NRC, with CDT's light-emitting polymer technology for visual enhancement of OLED display screens. . . .
