ILX Lightwave Corp., a Bozeman, Mont.-based maker of laser diode instrumentation and test systems, announced it has landed a major laser diode test service contract with ABB Bomem, of Quebec, to perform comprehensive parametric and optical characterization on approximately 200 free-space, TO-can laser diodes. These diodes will be used in a space-based satellite application and must undergo rigid testing for flight qualification. ABB Bomem produces infrared spectrometers; its Special Projects in Radiometry Division is developing this expertise in spectrometry for the study of atmospheric chemistry and for military and aerospace applications. . . . GE Medical Systems announced it has formed a dedicated imaging and information technologies unit, GE Medical Systems Orthopedics, to serve the orthopedic community. The new unit offers imaging products including extremity and whole-body magnetic resonance, digital and conventional x-ray, computed radiography and computed tomography, ultrasound and bone densitometry systems. It also offers information technology products such as electronic medical records, practice management software and picture archiving communications systems. . . . DPAC Technologies Corp., a maker of high-density memory and wireless products, announced it has an exclusive license agreement with DigiVision of San Diego, Calif., giving it exclusive marketing and manufacturing rights for a proprietary technology and circuit design that enhances real-time infrared images for the advanced targeting forward-looking infrared system for the US Navy F-18 fighter plane and other aerospace and military programs.
