John Wiley & Sons Inc. and the Optical Society of America (OSA) have signed an agreement to publish a new co-branded series of books under a joint Wiley-OSA imprint. Under this multiyear agreement, Wiley and OSA will collaborate to publish five to ten new titles a year for the optics, optical engineering and photonics market. The first books under the new imprint are expected to be published in 2007.    . . .    Joseph Bordogna will resign as deputy director of the National Science Foundation on June 30 after nine years in that office and will return to the University of Pennsylvania as Alfred Fitler Moore professor of engineering. Kathie L. Olsen, associate director for science for the Office of Science and Technology Policy in the Executive Office of the President, has been nominated to become NSF deputy director, pending confirmation. Bordogna, who is also NSF's chief operating officer, is the longest-serving deputy director in the agency's history. He first came to the foundation in 1991 as the head of its Directorate for Engineering; he was appointed acting deputy director in 1996 and deputy director in 1999. He has made contributions to the engineering profession in areas including early laser communications systems, holographic recording and early space capsule recovery.
