Laser Diode Inc., (LDI) a unit of electronic component manufacturer Tyco Electronics, announced it has contracted Modulight Inc. to perform design services in the development of it new laser diode chips. LDI, of Edison, N.J., makes optoelectronic products for various applications and industries. Finland-based Modulight, which has offices in Lafayette, Calif., makes laser diodes for telecommunications, data communications, CATV, industrial, medical, automotive, space and defense applications. . . . John Gallo was appointed vice president of business development and Steffen Koehler as vice president of marketing at Phasebridge Inc., coinciding with its second funding round. Gallo was formerly director of defense programs at Bookham Inc.; his previous positions included vice president of advanced programs at Optical Crosslinks and director of optical technology at BAE Systems. Koehler was most recently vice president of marketing for transceivers at Bookham Technology; before that, he was director or product marketing at Ciena Corp. Phasebridge, based in Pasadena, Calif., makes fiber optic products for the industrial, military and defense, aerospace, telecommunications and biomedical markets.
