Andreas Faulstich has been named director of research and development at Physik Instrumente, a Germany-based developer of ultraprecise motion-control systems and piezoelectric nanopositioning technology. Faulstich previously held R&D positions involving ultraprecision mechanics and high-resolution microscopy at Carl Zeiss, in Oberkochen, Germany, and at the Microscopy Business Group in Gottingen.   . . .   The International Microelectronics and Packaging Society (IMAPS) announced that its executive director, Richard Breck, is retiring and that a search is underway for a replacement. Anyone interested in applying for the position should visit the IMAPS Web site: www.imaps.org and submit a resume to [email protected] as a Microsoft Word document. The function and responsibilities of the executive director can be found at: www.imaps.org/organization/Policy_Procedures/P%26P_09_2003.pdf   . . .   HanVision Co. Ltd., a Korean camera manufacturer, and Sira, a UK-based electro-optics systems developer, have signed a license for HanVision to manufacture miniature radiation-tolerant cameras for the nuclear power industry. The new HVRH-7 camera combines a STAR250 active pixel sensor produced by FillFactory n.v., with a rad-hard electronics read-out system developed by Sira from systems designed for imaging in space. The companies said it has been tested at dose rates exceeding 100 krad/hr and has survived more than 5 Mrad without ill effects, conditions equivalent to the interior of a nuclear reactor.
