Coherent Scotland has been chosen by its US parent company, Coherent Inc., as the site for its original equipment manufacturing and scientific solid-state laser production. The company recently opened a 32,000-square-foot-building at the West of Scotland Science Park, in Glasgow, Scotland, that includes a 4,000-square-foot clean room for manufacturing solid-state lasers. Coherent Scotland, which employs 46, was formerly Microlase Optical Systems Ltd., a spinoff from Strathclyde University, of Glasgow. Microlase was acquired in 2000 by Coherent, which is based in Santa Clara, Calif.. . .Irvine Sensors Corp., based in Costa Mesa, Calif., announced it has developed and delivered the first units of an enhanced version of its miniaturized Cam-Noir infrared camera, which uses stacked memory chips that store precalibrated sensor performance characteristics for a variety of operating temperatures. The camera was developed with funding from several government agencies for a number of potential applications, from weapons sights to surveillance. In addition to testing for various military applications, the camera will be tested for potential use as a hands-free, helmet-mounted sensor for firefighters.   . . .    BAE SYSTEMS North America has named Walter P.
