The International Society for Optical Engineering (SPIE) named 37 new Fellows of the society at its 48th annual meeting, being held this week in San Diego, Calif. Fellows are members who have made scientific and technical contributions in the fields of optics, photonics and imaging. They were honored along with other award winners at a banquet last night. ATMI Inc., a supplier to semiconductor manufacturers, announced that Doug Neugold, ATMI president, has been appointed to the company's board of directors and named COO of the company. . . . Sasson Somekh, executive vice president of Applied Materials and a member of its board, announced he will resign from his day-to-day management responsibilities with the company, effective at the end of this month.
