Veeco Instruments Inc. announced the first sale of its Wyko MEMS8500 automated optical profiler for high-volume production measurement of micromanufactured components on 200-mm (8-inch) wafers. The approximately $1 million order follows the customer's purchase of a similar system for 6-inch wafers. The MEMS8500 will be used for inline 3-D surface topography measurement of microelectromechanical systems.
