DRS Technologies Inc., based in Parsippany, N.J., has entered the commercial IR technology market, according to an announcement made by Fred L. Marion, president of its Surveillance & Reconnaissance Group, at SPIE's Defense and Security Symposium in Orlando, Fla. James M. Baird, vice president and general manager of DRS Infrared Technologies in Dallas, will oversee the application of the company's infrared technology in lighter, more compact and more cost-effective devices for commercial use in such areas as national security, fire fighting, surveillance and industry. The unit produces focal plane arrays as well as detectors and sensors for infrared systems in military markets.
