The U.S. Department of Energy Office of Science has selected six companies and their respective solid-state lighting technologies projects to receive small business awards.

The Small Business Innovation Research (SBIR)-Small Business Technology Transfer (STTR) proposals came from PhosphorTech Corp. in Kennesaw, Ga., for its hybrid down-converting structures for solid-state lighting; Lumisyn LLC in Rochester, N.Y., for its high-performance colloidal nanocrystals; Vadient Optics LLC in Corvallis, Ore., for its alternative interconnect manufacturing; OLEDWorks LLC in Rochester, N.Y., for the development of high-efficiency white OLEDs using thermally-activated delayed fluorescence emitters; UbiQD LLC in Los Alamos, N.M., for nonradiative recombination pathways in noncarcinogenic quantum dot composites; and SC Solutions Inc. in Sunnyvale, Calif., for real-time learning temperature control for increased throughput in LED manufacturing.

The awards will explore the technical merits and commercial feasibility of an innovative concept or technology that is directly associated with the SSL program's R&D Plan.

The SBIR-STTR program seeks to increase the participation of small businesses in federally sponsored innovative and novel research and development.
