DALTON, Mass. – Crane & Co. Inc., manufacturer of the nation’s paper currency, has signed an agreement with Nanoventions, a micro-optic solutions provider in Atlanta, to purchase its subsidiary Visual Physics. The acquisition will provide Crane with rights to Motion, a high-tech micro-optic banknote security feature, and with ownership of Unison, an anticounterfeiting technology.

The next banknote to be redesigned is the $100 bill, which will have a micro-optic strip woven into its thread. Crane expects to have this new security feature by next year.
