ROCHESTER, N.Y., Aug. 17 -- Corning Inc. will invest $80 million to boost its ability to produce passive components used in optical fiber communications networks. The company will build a photonic components plant in a Rochester, N.Y. suburb, which will employ 440 people, Corning said. The investment will be dispersed over the next 12 to 18 months, and will double the company's production of passive components.
