Corning to Acquire Plaslab

CORNING, N.Y., Aug. 16, 2010 — Corning Inc. will acquire plastic-labware maker Plaslab SAS of France, the specialty glass maker announced Friday. Specific terms of the deal were not disclosed.

Plaslab is a French simplified joint stock company and the holding company of Plastiques Gosselin SAS, a maker of plastic consumable labware in Europe. Borre, France-based Plastiques Gosselin will be integrated into its Life Sciences segment, Corning said.

The acquisition adds sampling, testing and analysis consumables — including Petri dishes, bottles, containers, tubes and bags — to its Life Sciences product portfolio, Corning said, which are complementary to the general labware, cell culture, lab equipment, and HTS/Assay products it currently offers.

"One way we create balance is by building a healthy portfolio of businesses in different markets," said Peter F. Volanakis, Corning president and chief operating officer.

After the acquisition, Plaslab SAS and Plastiques Gosselin President and CEO Jean Gosselin will remain with the business in a similar capacity, Corning said.

Assuming certain closing conditions are met, the acquisition is expected to be completed in the fourth quarter of 2010.
