Corning Inc. of Corning, N.Y., and Xanoptix Inc. of Merrimack, N.H., have achieved data rates of more than 225 Gb/s over a total distance of 2.2 km of Corning's InfiniCor multimode fiber. The demonstration transmitted video traffic over the 1.1-km fiber, through Xanoptix's XTM-1 transceiver and a crossbar switch, and back through the fiber. The XTM-1 optical transceiver connects 36 input and 36 output fibers at 3.125 Gb/s per channel. It features a 72-fiber ferrule that enables the use of a 6 x 12 array of fibers with an MT connector.
