Corning, OSA Announce Student Competition
ANAHEIM, Calif., March 28, 2007 -- Corning Inc. and the OSA Foundation announced at OFC/NFOEC this week in Anaheim, Calif., that they will establish the Corning Outstanding Student Paper Award Competition, to debut at OFC/NFOEC 2008.
The competition is being funded through an endowment from Corning to recognize future leaders in the field of optics. Papers will be judged for innovation, research excellence and presentation skills.
Students will be able to opt into the competition as part of the regular submission process for OFC/NFOEC 2008. Finalists will be asked to submit supplemental information about a month before the conference. Final evaluations will be made and winners selected by the OFC/NFOEC general and program chairs.
The grand-prize recipient will receive $1500; papers of honorable mention will receive $1000 each. Awards will be presented during the post-deadline-paper session at OFC/NFOEC 2008. More details will be included in the call-for-papers announcement in June.
