Optical Surface Technologies (OST) has been awarded a contract with the Discovery Channel Telescope at Lowell Observatory to coat the 4.3-m primary mirror and to provide manufacturing support for the 1.4-m secondary mirror. The contract launched the Albuquerque, N.M.-based company’s mobile coating capability by providing comprehensive on-site coating services at customer facilities. The service facilitates chamber outsourcing operations by using OST’s staff to perform periodic cleaning and recoating activities. OST manufactures, tests and coats large custom optics, and its fabrication facility can produce mirrors and optical components up to 3 m in diameter.
