Coast Composites of Irvine, Calif., and the Connecticut Center for Advanced Technology Inc. of East Hartford will fabricate large molds for production of aerospace structures. Coast Composites has contracted with the Connecticut-based company to relocate its 10-kW ytterbium-glass fiber laser, manufactured by IPG Photonics of Oxford, Mass., to California, where it will be used for final mold assembly. Composite structures created with these molds will be incorporated into model 787 airplanes from Boeing Co.
