Cilas of France, a maker of lasers, optronics products and systems for defense and security applications, has been selected by two new companies to provide deformable mirrors for high power lasers. UK-based AWE has ordered the mirrors as part of a contract for wavefront sensors and adaptive optics. Cilas' monomorph deformable mirrors will be used on the two petawatt class lasers of the Orion project at AWE. The mirrors (63 actuators, 86 mm useful aperture) will be delivered before year's end. In France, the Laboratoire d'Utilisation des Lasers Intenses (LULI), a joint unit for research between the Centre National de la Recherche Scientifique (CNRS), the Commissariat à l'Energie atomique (CEA), the Ecole Polytechnique and Paris VI University, has ordered a monomorph mirror (31 actuators, 98 mm useful aperture) to upgrade the 100-terawatt class laser at LULI as part of the Elfie Project.
