ChromaVision, UCLA Join on HIV Diagnostic Test

SAN JUAN CAPISTRANO, Calif., Nov. 16 -- ChromaVision Medical Systems Inc. announced that it will collaborate with the School of Medicine at the University of California, Los Angeles, on feasibility studies to validate a new test to detect and quantify the total HIV reservoir in the peripheral blood cells of persons infected with the virus. The test is based on ChromaVision's Automated Cellular Imaging System (ACIS).
ACIS combines ChromaVision's proprietary color-based imaging technology with automated microscopy to increase sensitivity, accuracy and reproducibility of cancer, infectious disease and genetic cell-based diagnostics. The ACIS viral load test uses the immunohistochemical staining method; researchers hope the test will improve detection of HIV and provide more meaningful information for disease management and treatment decisions.
