Cepton, Exwayz Team Up for Lidar-Based Mobile Robotics Solutions

SAN JOSE, Calif., Dec. 6, 2022 — Lidar technology company Cepton is collaborating with Exwayz to demonstrate lidar-based perception solutions for mobile robotics applications. Exwayz provides plug-and-play perception software to enable lidar-based 3D mapping, localization, and re-localization, as well as object detection and classification. Per the collaboration, the companies intend to provide an immediate solution aimed at expediting integration processes for global customers.

The collaboration marks the second formed by Cepton this fall, following the company’s announcement six weeks ago that it is working with LidarSwiss Solutions GmbH to deploy its lidar technology in a drone-based mapping and analytics solution to support infrastructure management and engineering design applications. Also this fall, Cepton entered into a binding investment agreement for a $100 million investment from its automotive Tier 1 partner and shareholder, Koito Manufacturing Co. Ltd.

Glossary
lidar
Lidar, short for light detection and ranging, is a remote sensing technology that uses laser light to measure distances and generate precise, three-dimensional information about the shape and characteristics of objects and surfaces. Lidar systems typically consist of a laser scanner, a GPS receiver, and an inertial measurement unit (IMU), all integrated into a single system. Here is how lidar works: Laser emission: A laser emits laser pulses, often in the form of rapid and repetitive laser...
point cloud
A point cloud is a set of data points in a three-dimensional coordinate system, where each point represents a specific location in space. These points are typically obtained through various sensing techniques such as lidar (light detection and ranging), photogrammetry, structured light scanning, or 3D scanning. Each point in a point cloud is defined by its spatial coordinates (x, y, z), representing its position in three-dimensional space, as well as potentially additional attributes such as...
