Carl Zeiss Meditec AG has announced that Dr. Ludwin Monz, 46, will become the chief executive officer, effective after the Annual General Meeting (AGM) on March 4, 2010. Monz will succeed Dr. Michael Kaschke, 52, who assumed the position of CEO in July 2008. Kaschke intends to return as chairman to the Supervisory Board and will stand for election at the AGM. Monz has been a member of the Management Board of Carl Zeiss Meditec since Oct. 2007, and according to the company, has been responsible for the largest strategic business unit, Ophthalmic Systems. Previous to this, he directed the strategic business unit Microsurgery for six years. Monz joined the Carl Zeiss Group in 1994 and has been engaged in medical technology since 2000. The company also announced that Dr. Ralf Kuschnereit was named president and CEO of the Dublin, Calif.-based US subsidiary, effective Jan. 18, 2010, as well as the appointment of Joseph Donahoe as president of Sales Americas.
