Carl Zeiss Acquires Palm Microlaser

OBERKOCHEN, Germany, Dec. 14 -- Carl Zeiss AG announced yesterday it has fully acquired the German company Palm Microlaser Technologies AG, a Bernried, Germany-based maker of microdissection and micromanipulation systems using laser microdissection and pressure catapulting (LMPC) technologyTerms of the transaction were not disclosed.

Carl Zeiss makes a variety of optical and related products, including medical equipment, eyeglass lenses and frames, camera lenses, surveying equipment and riflescope lenses. Its microscopy systems are used for biomolecular research and drug development.

"Today, microscopes from Carl Zeiss are setting the world standards in high-end research imaging instrumentation," said Ulrich Simon, head of the microscopy business group at Carl Zeiss and chairman of the Palm supervisory board. "Joining forces will open doors to new highly integrated biomedical application solutions."
