Digital imaging solutions provider Canon USA Inc. has opened a research laboratory in Cambridge to develop biomedical optical imaging and medical robotics technologies. The 13,600-sq-ft Healthcare Optics Research Laboratory aims to bring medical devices to market for a variety of applications, including the detection of cardiovascular disease, brain-functional imaging, robotics-assisted surgery and miniature endoscopy. “This new research laboratory will be a symbol of Canon’s dedication to the research and development of innovative technologies that help solve clinical challenges facing healthcare communities,” said President and CEO Joe Adachi.
