Laser manufacturer Candela Corp. of Wayland, Mass., has reached an exclusive agreement with Freedom-2 to develop a new light-based device to easily remove Freedom-2 ink tattoos. Candela said tattoo removal is a growing trend, citing a recent study that said nearly 20 percent of US adults age 18-50 who have a tattoo are considering removing or covering them. Candela has invested financially in Freedom-2 to further develop biodegradable, removable inks and fund marketing efforts for its initial product launch. Candela currently makes the AlexLAZR, which removes black, blue and green tattoo pigments. Its AlexTriVantage laser, to be introduced at the American Academy of Dermatology Conference next month, removes a wider range of tattoo colors, the company said.
