Cambrios Awarded DoD Contract for PV Cells

SUNNYVALE, Calif., April 13, 2010 — Cambrios Technologies Corp. announced that it has been awarded a Department of Defense contract to produce lightweight, flexible solar energy photovoltaics (PV).

The contract represents the company’s first public announcement regarding the feasibility of using ClearOhm, a transparent, conductive, liquid material used to manufacture various electronics, as the electrode of a PV cell.

Under the contract with the DoD, US Army Natick Soldier Research, Development and Engineering Center (NSRDEC) and its collaboration with Ascent Solar Technologies Inc., a thin film solar module developer, the company will deliver flexible solar cells that incorporate a ClearOhm electrode layer.

It is expected that the cells will be 1 to 3 percent more efficient than the equivalent cells made with conventional transparent electrode material because of its improved transparency and light handling capability, said the company.
