CVI Melles Griot Rebrands as 2 Companies
CVI Melles Griot will now operate as two companies, CVI Laser Optics and Melles Griot, effective immediately, the Idex Optics & Photonics (IOP) platform announced.
Idex acquired CVI Melles Griot for $400 million to serve as the cornerstone of its optics and photonics platform in June 2011. (See: Idex to Acquire CVI Melles Griot for $400M).
The repartition back into two brands reflects IOP’s focus and commitment to laser optics (CVI), and to light sources and optical systems (Melles Griot), IOP President Jerry Jurkiewicz said. “This clarification better aligns our brands with our capabilities and production. Each brand will stand alone and define its excellence individually.”
CVI Laser Optics will focus solely on high-quality laser optical components and will continue with a large catalog and e-commerce website for standard products, semicustom optics and fully-custom components for its OEM customers.
Melles Griot will strengthen its custom lasers and light engines capabilities in Carlsbad, Calif., as well as its subsystems — including lens assemblies and shutters — and fully integrated optical systems at its Rochester, N.Y., Tamagawa, Japan, and Seoul, Korea, locations.
IOP, under the Idex Health & Science segment, provides advanced optical and photonic products for the life sciences, medical, scientific, industrial, semiconductor, defense and environmental markets. The platform consists of five brands, ATFilms, Precision Photonics, Semrock, CVI Laser Optics and Melles Griot.
