ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. April 20, 2006 -- CVI Laser LLC announced yesterday it has acquired Quality Laser Optics Ltd (QLO), a manufacturer of precision optics. The acquisition was completed by CVI's wholly-owned subsidiary in the Isle of Man, CVI Technical Optics Ltd. Terms of the transaction were not disclosed.
Based in Ballasalla, Isle of Man, QLO will increase CVI's European manufacturing capacity by over 25 percent, add new material processing capabilities such as phosphate disc polishing to the company's products and provide improved flexibility to its worldwide customer service, CVI said in a statement.
"We are combining two complementary companies to create a single trusted source for spherical lenses, cylindrical lenses, multi-element lenses, waveplates, polarizers, beamsplitters, filters, windows, large format optics, mounts and optomechanical subassemblies," said Helmut Kessler, general manager of CVI Technical Optics.
CVI serves the semiconductor, biotech, industrial, commercial, aerospace and research industries. It has approximately 400 employees, operates manufacturing facilities in New Mexico, the British Isles and South Korea and is headquartered in Albuquerque. It was acquired by private equity investment firm Norwest Equity Partners of Minneapolis two years ago.
