NEW YORK, Jan. 1, 2017 — Pan Stanford is set to publish a reference book for new deep tissue imaging techniques on January 31.

The book is edited by Robert R. Alfano, a leader in the field of ultrafast laser spectroscopy at the City College of the City University of New York, and Lingyan Shi, a leader in the field of multiphoton imaging at Columbia University.

The book provides an overview of emerging novel optical imaging techniques, Gaussian beam optics, light scattering, nonlinear optics and nonlinear optical tomography of tissues and cells. It consists of works that employ different linear and nonlinear optical imaging techniques for deep tissue imaging including the new applications of single and multiphoton excitation fluorescence, Raman scattering, resonance Raman spectroscopy, second-harmonic generation, stimulated Raman scattering gain and loss, coherent anti-Stokes Raman spectroscopy and near-IR, short-wavelength-IR and mid-IR supercontinuum spectroscopy.

“The use of the photon basic unit of light offers an unique opportunity via its many properties to understand various states of matter on more fundamental level,” Alfano said. “Shi and I believe biomedphotonics will open the door to the underlying mysteries of the brain and cancer."
