CLEO '97: R&D Expands Applications

When the Conference on Lasers and Electro-Optics/Quantum Electronics and Laser Science (CLEO/QELS '97) kicks off this year, the tens of thousands of attending researchers and developers can be sure of one thing: It’s not just more of the same.
In addition to offering researchers insight into how to handle and develop their intellectual property through the Laser Electro-optic Application Program, researchers will have a chance to see the latest developments in lasers and optics. More than 1400 technical papers on topics ranging from bio-research to ultrafast measurements, 31 short courses and 12 tutorials will be presented during the five day event -- touted as the largest trade show of its kind in North America.
Because of the wealth of information in and around CLEO, making the most of it can be a daunting task. In an effort to help Photonics/Spectra readers, we offer synopses of the hottest papers as picked by the chairs of each session.
