Burgess Appointed to Standards Committee

LITTLE ROCK, Ark., Jan. 5 -- William Burgess, vice president of operations at Power Technology Inc., a Little Rock, Ark., maker of laser diode products, was recently appointed a member of the American National Standards Institute (ANSI) Z136 accredited standards committee, which writes standards that protect against potential hazards associated with the use of lasers.

The committee is comprised of organizations, companies, government agencies and individuals with a direct interest in the safe use of lasers. The majority of ASC Z136 committee members also serve on one or more of the standards and/or technical subcommittees, and Burgess has been approved for membership onto the Standards Subcommittee 1 (SSC-1) for Safe Use of Lasers.

Power Technology's products have applications in the biomedical, analytical and industrial markets, including confocal microscopy, holography, cancer detection, Raman spectroscopy, high-resolution printing, telecommunications, LIDAR, analytical instrumentation, reprographics, metrology, interferometry, blood analysis and stereolithography.

holography
Holography is a technique used to capture and reconstruct three-dimensional images using the principles of interference and diffraction of light. Unlike conventional photography, which records only the intensity of light, holography records both the intensity and phase information of light waves scattered from an object. This allows the faithful reproduction of the object's three-dimensional structure, including its depth, shape, and texture. The process of holography typically involves the...
metrology
Metrology is the science and practice of measurement. It encompasses the theoretical and practical aspects of measurement, including the development of measurement standards, techniques, and instruments, as well as the application of measurement principles in various fields. The primary objectives of metrology are to ensure accuracy, reliability, and consistency in measurements and to establish traceability to recognized standards. Metrology plays a crucial role in science, industry,...
raman spectroscopy
Raman spectroscopy is a technique used in analytical chemistry and physics to study vibrational, rotational, and other low-frequency modes in a system. Named after the Indian physicist Sir C.V. Raman who discovered the phenomenon in 1928, Raman spectroscopy provides information about molecular vibrations by measuring the inelastic scattering of monochromatic light. Here is a breakdown of the process: Incident light: A monochromatic (single wavelength) light, usually from a laser, is...
