JUPITER, Fla. — Jenoptik will expand its facility in Jupiter, Fla., by 7100 sq ft, supporting the company’s expansion of cleanroom manufacturing operations. Construction of the addition — named “Perseverance” to honor the group’s work on NASA’s 2020 Mars mission — will be completed in January 2023.

ORLANDO, Fla. — LightPath Technologies’ BD6/black diamond infrared glass material passed radiation testing and is qualified for use as a replacement for germanium in space applications, according to the company. Testing of LightPath’s BD6 as part of a European Space Agency (ESA) was performed in parallel to efforts by the U.S. Department of Defense, European defense agencies, and others to reduce their dependence on germanium by qualifying an alternative. The tests performed simulated the radiation that the material would be exposed to during ESA missions, including gamma and proton tests.

BEAVERTON, Ore. — Tektronix Inc., a provider in test and measurement solutions, formed a collaboration with BRIDG, a not-for-profit, public-private partnership that specializes in advanced system integration and integrated circuit packaging for digital, radio frequency, and photonics silicon interposer technology. The collaboration will expand advanced semiconductor package testing capabilities in the U.S. Tektronix’s package test services and capabilities will be used to provide semiconductor testing, advanced package testing, and 2.5D/3D testing for BRIDG customers.

WALTHAM, Mass. — Evident Corp., a manufacturer of life science imaging systems, and Ultivue  Inc., a developer and provider in multiplexing tools and novel image analysis solutions for tissue biomarker studies, formed a collaborative agreement to promote whole slide imaging using multiplexed immunofluorescence (mIF) assays to advance translational research in the Americas. According to the companies, the collaboration will focus on a combination of Ultivue’s mIF assays with Olympus research slide scanners, provided by Evident. The collaboration builds on an existing partnership between the companies.

SHANGHAI — Mauna Kea Technologies and Tasly Pharmaceutical incorporated their joint venture in China. Tasly Mauna Kea Medical Engineering Technology Co. Ltd. will serve as the exclusive commercial platform for expanding the reach of Cellvizio into the Chinese domestic market and will launch a dedicated platform for neurosurgical applications worldwide.

LITTLE ROCK, Ark. — Windstream Wholesale, a provider of advanced optical solutions, reported its delivery of low-latency, ultrahigh bandwidth wave connectivity from the U.S to Europe through a strategic partnership with Colt and Aqua Comms. The connectivity, which originated in Chicago, traveled to London, and terminated in Frankfurt, Germany, yielded roundtrip latency of less than 100 ms with no frame loss. It used Aqua Comms’ subsea fiber optic network and connected Windstream’s U.S. network to Colt’s European wavelength network. According to Windstream, the successful partnership expands its available connectivity offerings for global, government, hyper-scale, content, and other large-scale customer providers outside of the company’s nationwide North American network, to more than 1000 data centers and points of presence within Europe, across various wave connectivity options that range from 10 G to100 G currently and that will range up to 400 G in the near future.

NEW YORK — Earth observation data collection company Satellogic Inc. completed an approximately 5% investment in Officina Stellare (OS), a company that designs, develops, and delivers optomechanical systems and instrumentation for ground- and space-based applications. The investment includes an option for Satellogic to expand its ownership to up to 12% in the next 36 months, and the appointment of Emiliano Kargieman, CEO and co-founder of Satellogic, to the OS board of directors.

Glossary
semiconductor
A semiconductor is a type of material that has electrical conductivity between that of a conductor and an insulator. In other words, semiconductors have properties that are intermediate between metals (good conductors of electricity) and insulators (poor conductors of electricity). The conductivity of a semiconductor can be controlled and modified by factors such as temperature, impurities, or an applied electric field. The most common semiconductors are crystalline solids, and they are...
