IRVINE, Calif., Aug. 14, -- In a move to increase its ability to provide end-to-end integrated circuit solutions for broadband communications networks, Broadcom Corp. has signed a definitive agreement to acquire privately held NewPort Communications Inc.
Broadcom will provide the next generation of SONET/Synchronous Digital Hierarchy and 10-Gb Ethernet networks with a wide array of CMOS optical communications technologies with the acquisition, the company said. The acquisition will also enable Broadcom to offer a wide range of optical and Wide Area Network infrastructure products to optical communications OEMs and laser module suppliers.
