As part of its strategy in the Asian and Pacific regions, where it has seen increased revenue for its optical and RF components, modules and subsystems, Bookham Technology plc of Abingdon, UK, intends to open a manufacturing facility in Shenzhen, China. Obtained through the company's acquisition of New Focus Inc., the 250,000-sq-ft factory houses cleanrooms and will serve as a key test-and-assembly facility for the company. Transmitter and receiver optical assemblies, amplifiers, connectors and fiber assembly will be the first products to be made at the plant. Siak Chiew Lim, vice president of Asia-Pacific operations, is responsible for leading the business.
