Biomedical Optics, Automation Among Topics at Photonics Boston 2002

Biomedical optics, automation for optoelectronic packaging and challenges in fiber optic testing and measurement will be among the topics of forums at SPIE's Photonics Boston meeting and exhibition, July 30-31 at the Boston Marriott Copley Place. Photonics Boston will be co-located with SPIE's ITCom 2002 and with OptiComm 2002, which are both being held July 29-August 2.
The Photonics Boston forums will feature high-level speakers discussing breakthrough technologies that are changing their fields:
  • Biomedical Optics; Sergio Fantini of Tufts University -- A number of optical methods are being successfully employed in biological research at the molecular, cellular and tissue levels.
  • Automation for Optoelectronic Packaging; James P. Gareau, Polytec PI -- Integrated component technologies, material processes and the potential for higher levels of integration will result from projected advancements in related process equipment.
  • Photonics Integration: Technologies and Platforms; Linda Smith, Clarendon Photonics -- Automating the packaging of optoelectronic components is a key enabler to photonic and fiber optic component yield improvement and cost reduction.
  • TDM and WDM; André Girard, EXFO -- Critical issues related to second-order PMD and nonlinear effects will be discussed as well as key technologies addressing today's challenges in fiber optic testing and measurement.
