Biolase Issued 2 More Laser Patents

IRVINE, Calif., July 20, 2011 — Dental laser manufacturer and distributor Biolase Technology Inc. announced that it has received two more patents from the US Patent and Trademark Office for its laser technologies that treat various eye conditions, including presbyopia. The patents are the seventh and eighth to be issued under the “Methods for Treating Eye Conditions” patent family.

Patent number 7,967,017 includes 29 claims and introduces a strategy for identifying optimal treatment zones for the reversal of presbyopia – the age-related loss of near vision that affects everyone in midlife.

Patent number 7,909,040 includes 10 claims and relates to the shape of the treatment laser beam and specific ablative patterns for treating presbyopia.

The company currently holds 11 issued and 22 pending US and international patents in four patent families in the ophthalmology field.
