BU Is Building Nanophotonics Lab

The Photonics Center at Boston University has begun construction of the $1.5 million NanoPhotonics Laboratory, which is scheduled to open in September. At the 1000-sq-ft facility, engineers and developers from various industries and areas of specialization will incorporate advances in nanophotonics, nanobiosystems and nanoelectromechanical systems into commercial applications in security, medical diagnostics, and nanoscale sensory and imagery systems. Available for collaborative product development with government agencies, corporations and the center's business accelerator companies, the laboratory will house ultraclean Class 100 workstation enclosures and will accommodate capabilities such as nanomaterials characterization and qualification for advanced processes.
