PARSIPPANY, N.J., Oct. 27 -- DRS Technologies Inc. has won a US Army contract to provide spares for the sighting systems of the Abrams M1A2 System Enhancement Package (SEP) and Bradley M2A3 fighting vehicles under the Horizontal Technology Integration (HTI) program. The $2.2-million contract was given to DRS' Sensor Systems unit in Torrance, Calif., with production planned for the company's Optronics unit in Palm Bay, Fla.The HTI second generation forward-looking infrared system consists of a common electronics unit and optomechanical assemblies called the B-Kit. The B-Kit is incorporated in the Bradley M2A3 Improved Acquisition System sight and in the thermal imaging system mounted on the Abrams M1A2 SEP's gunner's sight. The system enables ground vehicles to detect, identify and engage tactical targets under day or night conditions.
