Areté Associates of Tucson, Ariz., in collaboration with the Office of Naval Research and the US Marine Corps, will develop an electro-optic collision avoidance system for the Expeditionary Fighting Vehicle. With its ability to conduct high-speed water operations, the vehicle will expediate the transport of Marines from ship to shore. Based on Areté's streak tube imaging lidar system, the device will warn of obstacles, including shallow bottoms and submerged objects at close range. It can transmit the information to following vehicles. Funding for the system is through a Small Business Inovation Research program.
