Analytical Spectral Devices Inc. (ASD), a Boulder, Colo.-based maker of quality control instruments, has received the 2006 IQ (Innovation Quotient) Award in the Medical and Health Products category for its RxSpec drug verification technology. The award is presented by the Boulder County Business Report in recognition of outstanding technological contributions by businesses in the Boulder Valley region. RxSpec is used in a pharmacy to examine drugs directly in the dispensing vials and to confirm that the correct drug and dosage are being dispensed. Using advanced analytical and imaging technology, the system reads the chemical composition and dosage of a drug, compares the information with a drug identification library, then confirms quality compliance with FDA drugs. The technology confirms the composition of prescription medications in pill or tablet form, ASD said.
