Alcatel, Syracuse University Join for Telecommunications Technologies

CALABASAS, Calif., Aug. 23 -- Alcatel Internetworking Inc. has announced a partnership with Syracuse University's School of Information Studies to improve telecommunications technologies and applications for the public sector.
Alcatel will provide the University's Community Information and Technology Institute (CITI) with a $200,000 grant to found a Center for Excellence in Broadband Applications (CEBA), which will focus on analyzing and establishing high-tech telecommunications technologies and applications. Alcatel will also contribute broadband equipment that will be used to build and access high-speed telecommunications networks. The new center will be located in the University's Center for Science and Technology.
CEBA will be a focal point for information about the technologies and how new technologies could be adopted by government agencies, health-care institutions, the education community and other non-governmental organizations, said Murali Venkatesh, professor and director of CITI.
