Albis Optoelectronics AG of Rüschlikon, Switzerland, has relaunched the photodiode and chip and receiver subassembly product line of the former Opto Speed, which it recently acquired. Albis was founded in August by Markus Blaser, former product line manager of photodiodes for Opto Speed, and by Joerg Wieland, president and CEO of Helix AG of Zurich, Switzerland. It took over the assets of the former company's photodiode business, including equipment, key employees, intellectual property and the 2000-sq-ft cleanroom facilities in Rüschlikon, to ensure a continuing supply of photodiode chips for its customers. Albis, which will focus on developing photodiode products for 10-Gb/s short-reach data communications, supplies InGaAs/InP-based PIN photodiodes for optical interconnects, long-haul, metropolitan and high-speed local area network applications as well as for analog optical microwave signal transmission.
